Location: St. George & St. John Anglican Church, Whakatāne

Date Completed: February 2025

Job Description:
BUCO was engaged to carefully dismantle the historic bell tower of St. George & St. John Anglican Church in Whakatāne, originally constructed in the early 1900s. Due to its age and structural tension, the removal required a meticulous approach using scaffolding and cranes to cut and lower sections safely.

In addition to the tower removal, we also undertook the demolition of a wall as part of the church’s earthquake strengthening initiative. The project was executed efficiently and with precision, ensuring minimal disruption to the surrounding structure.

Our team’s commitment to safety and quality was recognized when an unannounced WorkSafe audit took place during the project. We passed with commendations for our site documentation, safety performance, and overall site cleanliness. The client was extremely pleased with the outcome, and we were proud to preserve the church’s legacy by ensuring they could retain the original bell.
